Biographical Information[edit]

Jack Rothfuss and his brother Adam Rothfuss played for the 1896-97 Newark Colts, with Jack hitting well over .300 with power each year. That got him 35 games in the majors in August and September of 1897 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he continued to hit over .300. During that period he came down with dysentery and had an extended stay in the hospital in 1898. Sources: Wikipedia article on Jack Rothfuss and SABR biography of Hal O'Hagan.

Rothfuss eventually was able to return to playing baseball, but never came back to the majors. He went on to play several more seasons in the minors, including four years with the Kansas City Blues. At age 30, he hit over .300 again with Kansas City, showing good triples power.

Started his career with the Ironsides semi-pro team of Newark, a primarily German team, playing along with his brothers Adam Rothfuss and Henry. Henry never played pro ball.
