Biographical Information[edit]

Jack Rhine played for Team USA and in the minors then became a college coach.

The Houston Astros took him in the 17th round of the 1968 amateur draft out of high school but he did not sign. He then was with the US when they won Silver in the 1972 Amateur World Series. [1] Out of college, he was a 42nd-round pick of the Texas Rangers in the 1972 amateur draft.

He signed instead with the Montréal Expos. He split '73 between the Jamestown Expos (.379/.471/.552 in 12 G) and West Palm Beach Expos (2-for-18, 4 BB). In 1974, he hit .208/.344/.250 for the Kinston Expos with his lone homer as a pro, backing up Othello Renfroe at catcher. He had batted .235/.363/.303 in 44 games as a pro with 21 walks, 15 runs and 12 RBI.

Rhine coached Newberry College in 1979-1980, going 89-40. [2] He was assistant at the University of Florida in 1981 [3] then was head coach there in 1982-1983, with a record of 72-39-1.
