Biographical Information[edit]

Jack Reis was successful in his brief pitching stint in the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1911 at age 20. At least, in terms of ERA he was successful.

He had gone to the University of Cincinnati from 1909-1911, the same alma mater that produced Sandy Koufax and Kevin Youkilis.

In 9 1/3 innings spread over three games, he gave up only one earned run, for an ERA of 0.96. With such a good ERA, why didn't he stick? It could have been that he also allowed 2 unearned runs, and, while he gave up only 5 hits in those 9 1/3 innings, he also allowed 8 walks.
