Biographical Information[edit]
Jack Powell pitched two games in the majors in 1913. Although his given name was Reginald, he was perhaps called "Jack" after Jack "Red" Powell, a pitcher who had pitched from 1897-1912 in the majors. Jack "Red" Powell pitched the majority of his seasons for the St. Louis Browns, the same team for which Reginald "Jack" Powell pitched in 1913.
He died in 1930 after declaring that he was the "fastest eater" in Memphis and choked to death as a result of attempting to swallow half a steak in one bite at a café. [1]
