Biographical Information[edit]
Jack McCartan was a member of the US teams in both baseball and hockey.
McCartan was on the University of Minnesota team that won the 1956 College World Series and joined the Army after college. He played third base for Team USA in baseball when they won the Bronze Medal in the 1959 Pan American Games and was the goalie for Team USA when they won Gold in hockey in the 1960 Olympics.
McCartan was 2-7 for the New York Rangers in 1959-1961 with a 3.71 goals per game average. He played minor league hockey until age 39, resurfacing in the World Hockey Association with the Minnesota Fighting Saints from 1972-73 to 1974-75. He served as interim coach for the Fighting Saints in his last two years and then became a Vancouver Canucks scout. In 1983, he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
