Biographical Information[edit]

"His story is one to be told, because it’s improbable. He never thought he was going to get the opportunity." - Astros manager A.J. Hinch, about Mayfield's major league debut

Jack Mayfield was a 28-year-old rookie when he broke into the majors with the Houston Astros in 2019. He was up for 26 games, playing mostly shortstop. He had been in the Astros organization since he was signed in 2013, and played seven seasons on their minor league teams.

Jack was born in Texas, but not very close to Houston - Del Rio, TX is 350 miles away. He attended the University of Oklahoma. He moved around a lot in the minors, not getting a full season with one minor league team until 2018, his sixth minor league season. Jack has moderate power, with 100 home runs in the minors through 2019. He had seven extra-base hits out of his ten hits while with the Astros.
