Biographical Information[edit]
Jack Haskell was an umpire in the American League's inaugural season, 1901. Though it was his only year in the circuit, he was quite busy, working 121 games, including 105 as the home plate umpire. He also led the league with 18 ejections. He was involved in two violent confrontations that year, getting punched by Burt Hart on August 5th and by Frank Shugart 16 days later in another disputed call. After his baseball days, he was active in Democratic politics and was a member of the Missouri state legislature.
He had earlier played in the Western Association and later umpired in the Western League in 1913 and 1914.
