Biographical Information

Jack "Moose" Farrell, who had an 11-year major league career, was the second baseman for the Providence Grays from 1879-1885, a consistently good team that won the pennant in 1879 and 1884. Teammates included Joe Start, Jerry Denny, John Ward, Charley Radbourn, and Paul Hines.

His best year was 1885, when he hit .305 with 11 triples.

According to the similarity scores method, the most similar player to Farrell was Al Myers, who was a teammate of Farrell's on the 1887 Washington Nationals. Myers played second, and the older Farrell, who was 29 at the time, played shortstop. Farrell, however, drew fewer walks, and had a bit more power.

He is one of three major leaguers with the name "Jack Farrell" (as of July 2007).
