Biographical Information[edit]

JD Closser was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 5th round of the 1998 amateur draft, one year after hitting .294 for the US junior national team in 1997. He was dealt to the Colorado Rockies in 2002 as part of a return for reliever Mike Myers, catching parts of three seasons between 2004 and 2006 in Denver. His most substantial action came in 2005, batting only .219 with 7 home runs in 92 games. After hitting only .196 in 32 games the next season, he was finished as a big leaguer. Closser was later a coach for the Tampa Yankees from 2014-2015 and Trenton Thunder from 2016-2017. In 2018, he became the New York Yankees minor league catching coordinator.
