Biographical Information[edit]

Ivey Shiver was born in Georgia and went to the University of Georgia in 1926-28. He started in the minors in 1929 and by April of 1931 he was briefly in the majors with the 1931 Detroit Tigers under manager Bucky Harris. He spent most of 1931 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, hitting .309 with 13 home runs. A teammate with Toronto was Nolen Richardson, whose time at the University of Georgia had overlapped with that of Ivey.

Shiver stayed in Canada in 1932-33, playing for the minor league Montreal Royals, and hitting over .310 with some power both years. His home runs easily led the team both seasons.

The next year he was with the 1934 Cincinnati Reds early in the season for 19 games, but spent most of 1934-35 with the St. Paul Saints. He led the Saints in home runs both years - in 1935, when he hit 31 home runs, the next best on the team was 14.

In 1936, his last minor league season, he played for three teams.

Per Wikipedia {11-10-20), after baseball he became a college and high school coach, apparently primarily for football teams. He had been a college football star.
