Biographical Information[edit]

Iván Hernández has played for the Nicaraguan national team.

He debuted for Chontales in Nicaragua's amateur league in 2009, hitting .254/.324/.313. In 2010, he was 7 for 16 with a double for them. The next year, he batted .285/.379/.373 with 17 doubles in 79 games. In '12, he fell to .233/.317/.267 before rebounding to .301/.395/.342 in part-time work in 2013 and .302/.403/.342 in 2014. During 2015, he hit .333/.368/.519 with 24 doubles, 10 homers and 84 RBI in 108 games. He tied for the lead with 15 game-winners in 2016, when he batted .343/.436/.514.

Hernández won a batting title for Chontales in 2017 at .389; he had a .498 OBP and .529 slugging to boot. He hit .389/.514/.576 in 2018 and tied Ronald Garth for the lead with seven game-winners. In the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, he backed up Douglas Morales at first base, going 0 for 7 while handling 15 chances error-free. In '19, he hit .328/.526/.585 with 12 dingers in 65 games.

The big infielder batted .346/.469/.575 in 2020, driving in 37 runs in 43 games. In '21, he hit .348/.483/.595 to bring his career line to .334/.450/.492; he had 26 doubles and 15 home runs in 112 games. He was intentionally walked a league-high 29 times, only 9 shy of Ofilio Castro's record.
