Instructional league

From BR Bullpen

An Instructional league is a form of winter league baseball that normally takes place after the end of the minor league season and allows top prospects to work on perfecting certain aspects of their game in a game environment that is at a high level but less competitive than normal minor league games. The only instructional league today is the Arizona Fall League, but there have been in the past a Florida Instructional League and a Florida East Coast Instructional League.

While statistics are kept for the games played and spectators are allowed to watch, as in a regular minor league games, players are assigned to random teams unrelated to their major league affiliation, and whatever pennant race there is is of little consequence. Statistics are available but are not normally listed in a player's record, and attendance is largely made up of scouts, team employees and other professionals. The season only lasts a few weeks, and there is usually some sort of All-Star Game to conclude the season.
