Biographical Information[edit]
Humberto Evangelista pitched for the Dominican national team in the 1951 Amateur World Series then was 4-1 in the 1952 Amateur World Series to lead in wins; the Dominicans won Silver. No pitcher ever won more games in an Amateur World Series. Evangelista turned down offers to turn pro, becoming a priest. He made the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
