Biographical Information[edit]

Alabama native Hugh East spent seven seasons in professional baseball from 1938 to 1947. He spent three partial seasons (1941-1943) in the Major Leagues as a pitcher for the New York Giants. He compiled a 2-6 record with a 5.40 ERA in 63.1 innings.

East pitched seven seasons in the minor leagues with his best season coming in 1941 with the Jersey City Giants of the International League. He produced a 13-10 record with a 3.60 ERA while pitching 190 innings. During his seven-year run in the minor leagues, Hugh had four double-digit win seasons and a composite 58-63 record in 182 games.

East served in the United States Navy during World War II. For 25 years, he was an insurance salesman for Liberty National Life Insurance Company.

Hugh East died at his home in Charleston, SC on November 2, 1981.
