Biographical Information[edit]
Hub Northen was the third outfielder on the 1912 Brooklyn Dodgers. It was the year that Casey Stengel broke in, and the following year Stengel had the job.
Northen, although he was one of the three outfielders who were most used by the team, was not the most frequent player in any one of the outfield positions. Herbie Moran appeared the most in both center and right field, while Northen was # 2 at both positions.
Hub broke in with Monroe in 1908, and then played for Houston in 1909-10. Other minor league teams in his career included Chattanooga in 1911, Toronto and Newark in 1913, New Orleans in 1914, Mobile in 1914-15, and then Houston, San Antonio and Abilene. He managed at San Antonio, Mexia, Shreveport, and Marshall. He also scouted. Source: New York Times obituary. thedeadballera.com/Obits/Northen.Hub.Obit.html
In the late 1930's and 1940's Northen was a scout for the Shreveport Sports. He served interim managerial stints for ill managers in 1938 and 1946 and replaced a resigned manager in 1940.
