Biographical Information

Oscar "Hub" Knolls pitched two games for the 1906 Brooklyn Superbas after being acquired from the Cubs organization. The press reported in 1908 that after he pitched for the Superbas, he "jumped"; he appealed for reinstatement but that was rejected.

"Knolls is heralded as more eccentric than 'Rube' Waddell, and as the possessor of all 'Rube's' speed. He worked round Chicago for the clever Marquette team, and was a terror to batsmen." - a description of Oscar Knolls from Sporting Life, February 17, 1906, after he was picked up by the 1906 Cubs (for whom he never played at the major league level)

"Take this young giant, Oscar Knolls, that we sold to the Chicago Nationals. He pitched three games for me at Evansville and won them all in a canter. . . His fast ball has a sort of a jump to it, like that of Charley Nichols, and is about as hard to hit as anything I ever saw." - Jimmy Ryan, manager of Evansville, quoted in Sporting Life of April 7, 1906
