Howard School of Academics and Technology
The Howard School of Academics and Technology was the first public school in Chattanooga, TN when it opened as the Howard School in 1865. It was established by former General Oliver Howard of the Union Army, head of the Freedmen's Bureau, for the benefit of the city's African-American population. Earl Gurley went here.
