Hotel Bossert

From BR Bullpen

This elegant building at 98 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights was the scene of the wild celebration for the only World Series that the Brooklyn Dodgers ever won, in October 1955. Several Dodgers also lived in the hotel during the '50s, including Johnny Podres, Don Newcombe, Sandy Amorós, Clem Labine, George Shuba, and Don Zimmer. The Dodgers' club offices were a few blocks away at 215 Montague Street (an address that no longer exists).

Various other events related to the Dodgers were held at the "Waldorf-Astoria of Brooklyn" over the years.

  • In February 1939, plans for organization of a Brooklyn "Knothole Gang" were outlined at a luncheon.
  • In July 1940, there was a dinner to honor Dixie Walker ("The People's Cherce").
  • In January 1942, former Presidential candidate Wendell Willkie -- who preceded Walter O'Malley as the Dodgers' chief legal counsel -- praised Freddie Fitzsimmons at another dinner there.
