Biographical Information

Hooks Iott pitched two seasons in the majors, 1941 and 1947, getting most of his playing team in 1947. He was in the minors for 16 years, winning 175 games.

On June 18, 1941 Iott fanned 25 Batesville batters in a 9 inning game for the Paragould Browns. On July 15, he fanned 30 Newport batters in a 16 inning game.

He served in World War II from November 1942 until spring 1945, and played service ball, according to Baseball in Wartime's biography of Iott. As a service player, he pitched well in the National Semi-Pro Tournament in 1944.

On June 23, 1947 Iott was claimed by the New York Giants on waivers from the St. Louis Browns, who were at the time travelling to Philadelphia. He took a train to Chicago and the next day pitched a two hit shutout for the Giants beating the Cubs 11-0 at Wrigley Field. It was the best pitched game of the season for the 1947 New York Giants and the only shutout of Iott's short ML career.
