Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Homer Johnston played in the minor leagues from 1940 to 1942, 1946 to 1950 and in 1953.

In his first full campaign, 1941, he hit .312 with 13 triples for the Union City Greyhounds. After hitting .294 with 14 home runs in 1942, he missed 1943 to 1945 due to service in World War II, serving in the United States Army. Upon his return, he hit .410/.477/.674 with 17 home runs and 89 RBI his first year back, including a .453/.520/.757 line in 243 at-bats for the Cairo Egyptians. In 1947, he hit .302/.375/.430 with 10 home runs and 103 RBI for the Waterloo White Hawks and in 1948, he had a .331 average and a .391 on-base percentage for the Muskegon Clippers. He had 109 RBI despite hitting just 3 home runs that year. Between three clubs in 1949, he had 20 home runs and 82 RBI. His numbers slipped in 1950 and he didn't play in 1951 or 1952. He returned to play for the Charleston Rebels in 1953 to wrap up his career.

Overall, he hit .306 with 82 home runs and 1,119 hits in 980 games over 9 seasons. He died in 2022 at either 101 or 102 years old.
