Biographical Information[edit]

Hisashi Takayama has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Takayama was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the first round of the 1999 NPB draft. He spent the first five years in the NPB Farm leagues, and only played 86 games combined with big club. He also represented Japan in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, going 3 for 9 with two walks, a double, three runs and one RBI. He had two putouts and one assist in right field, where he backed up Takashi Yoshiura. Takayama had 114 at-bats for the Lions in 2006, and he hit .263/.317/.430 with 2 homers. However, the Lions demoted him again in 2007, and he played 57 more games in the major league in the next three seasons. The Kumamoto native finally won a starting outfielder spot when G. G. Sato struggled in 2011. He recorded a .291/.344/.448 batting line in 116 games, and blasted a career-high 11 homers. However, Takayama went 3-for-18 in the beginning of the 2011 season, and he was sent back to the ni-gun again. He had 100 more at-bats in the next two seasons, then the Lions traded him to the Hanshin Tigers for Yusuke Kawasaki in 2012. Takayama only played 9 games in 2013, then announced his retirement after that season. After retiring, Takayama became the hitting coach for the Lions since 2021.

Overall, Takayama had hit .250/.307/.396 in 13 seasons in NPB.
