Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroyuki Shibata played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Shibata was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the fourth round of the 1998 NPB draft, and he hit .143/.226/.143 in 26 games in 1999. The outfielder improved to .265/.361/.362 with 20 steals in 2001, and he led the Pacific League with 8 triples (tied with Makoto Kosaka). However, Shibata tore his left elbow ligament, and Tommy John surgery. Thus, he only played 21 games in 2002.
Shibata came back in 2003, hitting .300/.367/.350 with 18 homers as a designated hitter. He then collected a career-high 22 steals with a batting line in .279/.393/.352 in 2004, and he tied Naoyuki Omura for 2nd in steals (20 behind Munenori Kawasaki).. He only got 26 at-bats combined in the next three season, and he announced his retirement in 2007.
Overall, Shibata hit .264/.353/.337 with 204 hits and 73 steals in 7 years in NPB.
