Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroshi Taneda pitched for the Taiyo Whales (1951) and Hankyu Braves (1955-1961) of Nippon Professional Baseball. After an inauspicious start at 19 years old in 1951 (0-4, 7.30 ERA), he came back a few years later and rattled off three excellent seasons in a row. In 1955, he went 8-3 with a 2.18 ERA in 123 2/3 innings, allowing just 90 hits; the next year, he was 17-8 with a 1.56 mark, completing 10 games with four shutouts in 242 2/3 innings and in 1957, he was 8-7 with a 1.99 ERA, completing 6 games in 149 1/3 frames. Overall, Taneda went 40-39 with a 2.50 ERA in 211 games (115 starts). He had 23 complete games and 8 shutouts.
