Hiroaki Mizutani pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.
Mizutani was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the third round of the 1978 NPB draft, and he joined their bullpen as a rookie. He had a 5.23 ERA in 47 games, then he led the Central League with 56 appearances (tied with Yutaka Ikeuchi and Mitsuo Sumi) while having a 4.27 ERA in 1980. He improved to a 2.70 ERA in 47 games in 1981, and he tied Tetsuo Nishii, Akio Saito and Hiroaki Takeuchi for 7th in appearances. However, His ERA rose to 6.86 in 31 games in 1982, and he missed the entire 1983 season due to injuries. Mizutani announced his retirement after the 1983 season, and he became a scout for the Dragons from 1984 to 1989, from 1996 to 1997 and from 2001 to 2013. He also coached the Dragons from 1990 to 1995 and from 1998 to 2000.
Overall, Mizutani was 7-5 with a 4.40 ERA, struck out 159 and pitched 200 2/3 innings in 4 years in NPB.
