Biographical Information[edit]
Hideki Sunaga pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Sunaga was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the second round of the 2003 NPB draft. Sunaga was mainly in the NPB Farm Leagues his entire career, only having 24 appearances combined with the big club in the first seven years of his career. He represented Japan in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup, posting a 1.42 ERA with 12 K in 6 1/3 IP but taking a loss to Yu-Ching Lin and Taiwan (3 of the 4 runs off him that day were unearned).
The Fighters traded him with Toshimasa Konta to the Yomiuri Giants for Wirfin Obispo after the 2010 season. Sunaga still couldn't get many chances at the top level, only appearing in one game in four seasons. The Giants traded him back to the Fighters with Kenji Yano for Atsushi Kita and Toshiyuki Yanuki in 2015. He only pitched 5 games for the Fighters in the 2015 season, then announced his retirement.
Overall, Sunaga was 0-3 and a 7.71 ERA and pitched 63 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
