Left fielder Henry Abad was 2 for 6 with 4 walks, a double, three runs and three RBI for Cuba when they won the 2002 World Junior Championship, backing up Eliu Torres in left. He played in 41 games for the Avispas de Santiago de Cuba of the Cuban National Series in 2007-2008, slashing .264/.344/.418 with 2 home runs, 22 RBI and 29 hits. He defected to Mexico in 2009. He slashed .231/.286/.231 with no home runs, 2 RBI and 5 runs scored in 9 games for the independent McAllen Thunder of the North American League in 2012.
