Henderson (NC) Institute
The Henderson Institute was formerly located in Henderson, NC, where it was created in 1887 by the Freedman's Bureau to provide secondary school education to African-American students. It closed in 1970 but one of the school building is preserved as a museum and is on the National register of Historic Places. Branch Russell went here.
