Francisco Heberto Portobanco Guillén (Papa)
Biographical Information[edit]
Heberto Portobanco was a noted manager in Nicaragua. His brother Joaquin Portobanco played for the Nicaraguan national team and nephew Luz Portobanco pitched in the minor leagues.
Heberto coached four national champions in Nicaragua (1972, 1977, 1978 and 1992-1993). He helped develop Dennis Martínez. He also guided the Nicaraguan national team in the 1971 Amateur World Series (Bronze Medal), 1971 Pan American Games, 1978 Central American and Caribbean Games (Silver Medal), 1978 Amateur World Series and 1993 Intercontinental Cup.
In 2004, he was inducted into the Nicaraguan Sports Hall of Fame.
