Biographical Information[edit]

Hayato Nakamura pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Nakamura represented Japan in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. The Nippon Ham Fighters drafted him in the fourth round of the 2000 NPB draft. Nakamura joined the rotation as a rookie, and went 6-3 with a 3.94 ERA and a league-leading 3 shutouts. He became the 27th pitcher to complete a shutout in his first professional game in NPB history. Nakamura was selected into the 2002 NPB All-Star Game, allowed a run in a inning and ended up no decision. He was 7-11 with a 4.26 ERA in that year. He struggled in 2003 as his ERA rose to 6.98. However, he suffered a waist injury, and only pitched 6 games in 2005. The Giants released him after the 2005 season. Nakamura joined the Brother Elephants of the CPBL in 2006, but he was released after allowing 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings with the big club. He announced his retirement after the 2006 season.

Nakamura's repertoire included a fastball (peak 87 mph), slider, shuuto and forkball.

Overall, Nakamura was 15-18 with a 4.32 ERA and pitched 292 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
