Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Harry Young played several seasons of minor league ball.

Young debuted in 1950 with the Longview Texans, going 17-14 with a 4.48 ERA. He tied Billy Hyde for 7th in the East Texas League in wins, tied for 4th in losses, was 4th in strikeouts (163) and third in walks (138). He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Returning to the minors with the 1952 Clovis Pioneers, he went 10-5 with a 5.07 ERA and 93 BB in 135 IP. The lefty posted a 9-12, 4.39 record for the 1953 Greenville Majors/Bryan Majors.

He reached his highest level in 1954 with the A class Wichita Indians, for whom he was 4-5 with a 4.43 ERA and 43 BB in 67 IP. He went 20-12 with a 4.41 ERA for the 1955 Artesia Numexers, cutting his walk rate (82 in 241 IP). He also was 0-1 that year for the Galveston White Caps. He tied Eddie Locke for third in the Longhorn League in wins, tied for second in complete games (20, one shy of Robert Weaver) and tied for fourth in strikeouts (178, even with Darvin Chrisco). He split 1956 between the Victoria Eagles (2-2), Roswell Rockets and Carlsbad Potashers (a combined 15-4, 5.72 between the latter two teams). He tied for 7th in the Southwestern League in losses and was one win shy of making the top 10. He ended his career with a 14-8, 4.06 record for Carlsbad in 1957. He tied Manny Fierro for 5th in the SWL in wins and was 5th in ERA.

He had his best year in 1955, winning 20 games for the Artesia Numexers of the Longhorn League.

After baseball, he worked for AMAX Potash Corporation.
