Harry A. Williams

Harry Williams was a well known sports writer in the Los Angeles, CA area. He began his career with the Los Angeles Express, before working for both the Los Angeles Tribune and Los Angeles Times. He became sports editor of the Times after the First World War. As editor he completely changed the way the paper covered baseball by printing player biographies, rosters and statistical pieces. Except for one year with the New York Globe, Williams would work with the Times until 1924 when he was elected President of the Pacific Coast League. During his presidency he would also serve as league secretary. He retired from both positions in 1931. In 1935 he returned to the league as the publicity director. The following year he became the league secretary again. He would hold that position until his 1953 death. Williams is a member of the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame.
