Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Harry Wilke played just three games for the Chicago Cubs in 1927. This was his only major league baseball experience. His professional career covered nine seasons from 1922 until 1932. One of his best seasons was in 1929, when he hit .298 with 16 home runs and 88 RBI for two Eastern League teams.
Wilke also had a very good season in 1926 for the Asheville Tourists of the class B South Atlantic Association, hitting at a .350 clip with nine home runs. Harry's nine seasons in the minors showed he appeared in 1,136 games, hitting at a .280 average in 3,913 at-bats.
After baseball Harry owned and operated Wilke's Cafe in Hamilton, OH for a number of years, retiring in 1962. Harry Joseph Wilke passed away at Schroder Manor in Hamilton on June 21, 1991.
