Biographical Information[edit]
Harry Rice played 10 years in the majors with a career .299 batting average. He was fifth in the 1925 American League Most Valuable Player Award voting, even though he appeared in only 103 games. He had hit .359/.450/.568, though. Only Roger Peckinpaugh, Al Simmons, Joe Sewell and Harry Heilmann got more votes.
In 1927 and 1928 he led league outfielders in errors with 20 and then 14.
Played CF for Toronto Maple Leafs of the International League in 1934. He almost always hit well over .300 in the minors, and several times hit over .400 during partial seasons in the low minors.
He was a minor league player-manager for four years beginning in 1938, managing the DeLand Reds in 1938, the Cordele Bees in 1939, and the Fond du Lac Panthers in 1940-1941.
Harry played almost his entire major league career in the American League, and was a contemporary of Sam Rice, who also played in the American League.The two became teammates for a while on the Washington Senators in 1931. At the time, Sam was 41 while Harry was 29 and the two were not related.
