Biographical Information[edit]
Harry Moran was a big star at Washington and Lee University before coming to the major leagues. Most of his time was spent in the Federal League.
In 1910, Moran pitched 15 shutout innings and struck out 28 hitters against North Carolina A&M University. In 1911, he threw a no-hitter with 20 strikeouts. He graduated in 1913.
That same year, he pitched 14 2/3 innings for the Detroit Tigers. Although it was the Tigers of Ty Cobb and Wahoo Sam Crawford, the team finished under .500.
The next year he was in the Federal League, pitching for the Buffalo Buffeds, going 10-7 on a team that finished over .500. Hal Chase and Frank Delahanty were two of his teammates. In 1915 with the Newark Pepper, he went 13-9, on the team that started Bill McKechnie's long managerial career in the majors. An old Ed Reulbach and a young Edd Roush were teammates of his. Reulbach led the team with 21 victories.
