Biographical Information[edit]
Harry McCormick played four seasons of baseball from 1879 to 1883, two of which were in the National League (Syracuse Stars and Worcester Ruby Legs) and the other two in the American Association (Cincinnati). He didn’t play during the 1880 season. His career statistics include 157 strikeouts, a 41-58 career record, and a 2.66 ERA, recording an ERA+ of exactly 100.
McCormick hit a homer in a 1-0 game on July 26, 1879 with his hometown team, the Syracuse Stars. He became the first pitcher ever to hit a homer with it being the sole run in a game. This feat went on to be accomplished a handful of times, including by Milt Pappas in 1962 and Nate Karns in 2015.
