Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Harry Bemis was with the deadball era Cleveland Naps, in the formative year of the American League, for nine years. He was a teammate of Hall of Famers Nap Lajoie and Elmer Flick. He made his major league debut at age 28 and was still playing catcher in 1910 as one of the oldest players in the American League. His 1947 New York Times obituary said he was nicknamed "Handsome Harry", and (wrongly) stated he had played with the Boston National League team before coming to Cleveland. It also said he started with Toronto in 1898 (when he would have already been 24) and later played for Columbus, Toronto, Memphis and Newark.
