Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Harold Newton had been a multi-sport star in high school in Windsor, ON. He played two games for the Welch Miners in the Philadelphia Athletics system in 1953 and for the Panama City Fliers in the Detroit Tigers system in 1955, going 1-1.
He later played in the Canadian Football League from 1957 to 1959 and was an amateur boxer for a time, fighting across the river in Detroit, MI. In the CFL, he was an end for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1957, then played with the Calgary Stampeders in 1958 and 1959 and the Toronto Argonauts in 1959.
