Biographical Information[edit]
Hamlet Hermann pitched for the Dominican national team in the 1953 Amateur World Series, beating Guatemala. He later was an engineer in Chicago then ran the Dominican Republic's Energy Department from 1964-1966. He was part of a revolution against the Dominican dictatorship in 1973 and was exiled from 1973-1979. He returned home and taught at his alma mater. He was Secretary of State from 1996-2000. In 2002, he ran for mayor of Santo Domingo. He also remained active in sports, serving on the Dominican Olympic Committee and being president of the Federación Dominicana de Béisbol Amateur. Additionally, he wrote numerous books. His brother Dardo Hermann also played for the national team.
