Biographical Information[edit]

Kyung-ki Kim topped 20 homers three times in the Korea Baseball Organization and later became a hitting coach.

Kim hit .273/.351/.333 as the South Korean national team's starting first baseman in the 1988 Baseball World Cup and remained with Korea for the 1988 Olympics. He began his professional career in 1990 with the Taepyungyang Dolphins, hitting .285/.366/.432 with a league-leading 29 doubles. He hit .291/.341/.436 in 1991 and .254/.312/.443 with 21 homers in 1992. He tied Soon-chul Lee for 7th in the KBO in home runs. Kim produced at a .280/.343/.399 rate in 1993. In 1994, he hit .277/.368/.494 with 23 home runs and 70 RBI. He was 8th in the league in RBI, 7th in OPS and second in circuit clouts, only two behind leader Ki-tae Kim. He ended his Dolphins career in 1995 by hitting .295/.369/.455.

Moving to the Hyundai Unicorns in '96, Kim batted .274/.360/.464 with 20 home runs. He tied Sang-ho Kim for 4th in the league in homers and was 10th in OPS. He won the Gold Glove as the circuit's best overall first baseman. In 1997, he hit .254/.352/.379, followed by .274/.354/.457 with 18 home runs in 1998. He fell to .277/.368/.394 in 1999.

Hyundai traded him to the SK Wyverns. Down to a part-time role, he hit .282/.417/.401 in 41 games in 2000 and .232/.340/.317 in 2001. Overall, he had batted .275/.355/.436 in 1,182 KBO games, with 206 doubles and 138 home runs.

After his playing career ended, Kim became hitting coach of the Wyverns in 2002. He helped them to Korean Series titles in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
