Biographical Information

In addition to playing baseball at the University of Wisconsin, catcher Gus Vergetis also was a member of the school's football team that participated in the 1952 Rose Bowl. After college, he served in the army and briefly played minor league ball, hitting .274/.343/.359 in 74 games with the Plainview Ponies in 1954. He fielded .973 as their primary catcher. He later was a longtime English teacher, principal, and coach. He guided Brown Deer High School to a state title in 1966.
