Gus Dorais was a college coach.
Dorais was the first quarterback to start all four seasons at Notre Dame (1910-1913) and was their first consensus All-American in football (1913). He is credited with establishing the forward pass a key part of football. He formed a QB-receiver tandem with Knute Rockne and also set the Notre Dame record for field goal attempts (7). He later coached college football in 1914-1917 and 1920-1942. He also coached baseball at Notre Dame in 1919-1920. From 1943-1947, he coached the NFL's Detroit Lions (20-31-2) then was an assistant coach for the 1952 Pittsburgh Steelers. In 1954, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
