Biographical Information

Grover Land was a catcher for 25 years from 1902 to 1926, seven in the Major Leagues and 21 in the minors.

He served in the U. S. Armed Forces during World War I (BN).

From 1908 through 1913 he played for the Cleveland Naps and in 1914 and 1915 with the Brooklyn Tip-Tops. He was a backup with Cleveland but became the first-string catcher with Brooklyn in the Federal League. Land was a coach for the league champion Chicago Cubs in 1929.

He lived in Phoenix, AZ from 1921 until his death. He died at age 73 in the Veteran's Hospital in Phoenix and is buried at Greenwood Memory Lawn in Phoenix.

His son, Grover Cleveland Land, Jr. was a T4 in the U. S. Army during World War II.

Observation

Too bad Grover Cleveland Land and Grover Cleveland Alexander were never a battery.
