Biographical Information[edit]

Noisy Clarke was a 31-year-old rookie who played just one season in the majors, in 1944 for the Chicago White Sox. A third baseman, he hit .260/.352/.331 in 169 at-bats, on a team whose batting average was .247. He had no home runs but did hit 10 doubles and draw 22 walks. The regular third baseman that year was Ralph Hodgin, who hit .295 but made 18 errors in his 82 appearances at third base for a .942 fielding percentage. Clarke made 9 errors in his 45 games for a .941 mark. The next year, 37-year-old Tony Cuccinello played third base. Clarke had been traded by Milwaukee of the American Association to the White Sox. He won the 1943 batting championship in the American Association. In the minors, he also played for the Cardinals' minor league team in Houston, for Asheville in the Piedmont League, for Kannapolis in 1936, and for Macon in the Sally League.
