Biographical Information[edit]
Greg Sims was part of the Houston Astros' youth movement in 1966. He was 20 years old, the same age as teammates Bob Watson and Nate Colbert.
Sims is the subject of an article in the book One Hit Wonders. He was a star in high school in Sacramento, and was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1965. Although Sims hit .300 in two minor league stops in 1965, the Pirates let him get drafted away by the Astros. His only hit in the majors was a pinch-hit single. At one point, the Astros had to choose between keeping Sims or Colbert at the major league level, and sent Sims down. He played in the minors for several years, and then in 1972 played in Mexico.
