Biographical Information[edit]
Gil Bassetti pitched in the New York Giants/San Francisco Giants system from 1954 to 1958. His one true standout campaign was 1956, when he went 21-8 with 17 complete games, 4 shutouts and a 2.26 ERA in 44 games (29 starts) for the Sandersville Giants. He later went 12-8 between two clubs in 1958, his final campaign. Overall, he was 51-31 in 167 appearances for a .622 winning percentage.
Following his playing career, he scouted for the Minnesota Twins (1965-1968), Los Angeles Dodgers (1971-?), St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles. He signed, among others, Eric Young (with Steve Lembo) and John Franco. He won the A.B. "Turk" Karam Award in 1979.
