Biographical Information

George Young was in only two games in the majors, both times coming in as a pinch-hitter. The Cleveland Naps were a strong team in 1913, going 86-66 for the year. George, at age 23, was two years younger than teammate Joe Jackson.

Young also played for the Charleston Senators in 1913-1914.

Although George was from New York, one presumes he was not the same person as the George Young who got arrested as part of The Great Philadelphia Ballpark Riot on August 30, 1913 that involved the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies. He is also not the same George Young who was a marathon swimmer in the 1920s. However, he might possibly be the same George Young who taught school at Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY and umpired some local games.

Although George did not play in the field with the Naps, he was primarily a catcher, as the photo above shows, and as his minor league career shows. He also served in the Army Air Service in World War I.
