Biographical Information[edit]

George Winkelman pitched one game in the majors. According to an article about him [1], he was a "noted amateur" from Washington, DC. He said that during at least one stop in the non-majors, he had to play in the field when he didn't pitch or he wouldn't get paid. After his playing days he worked for the government. After he retired, Clark Griffith, his old minor-league roommate, employed him at turnstiles in Griffith Stadium. He lived a long life, dying at 95.
