Biographical Information[edit]

George Whileyman pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates system from 1971 to 1974. He was taken by the club in the 7th round of the 1971 amateur draft, between future major leaguers Dave Edwards and Hank Small.

He began his career by going 7-2 with 8 complete games and a 2.00 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) for the Niagara Falls Pirates; in 99 innings, he had 106 strikeouts and allowed just 64 hits. In 1972, he slipped to 7-8, 5.48 in 22 starts between two clubs, then he went 7-12, 3.79 in 24 starts for the Sherbrooke Pirates. In 1974, his final campaign, he was 10-10 with a 4.71 ERA, completing 9 games in 23 starts for the Thetford Mines Pirates.

Overall, Whileyman went 31-32 with 25 complete games and a 4.10 ERA in 82 games (81 starts). In 505 innings, he allowed 451 hits and 303 walks (1.493 WHIP), while striking out 389 batters.
