Biographical Information[edit]

George Thanopoulos graduated from Columbia University in 2016 with a degree in psychology. While at Columbia, he was a part of three Ivy League championship teams and was named Second Team All-Ivy League in 2014 and 2015. He was drafted in 2015 (New York Mets, 35th round) and in 2016 (Colorado Rockies, 27th round) and spent two seasons in the Rockies minor league system as a relief pitcher. Thanopoulos went 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in 26 games in 2016-2017.

Even before finishing his playing career, Thanapoulos served as the pitching coach for the Redlands East Valley High School Wildcats in 2013. It appears he took a year off from college because he did not play for Columbia during the 2013 season.

In the summer of 2018 Thanopoulos worked with MLB and served as an international envoy coach in China. After returning to the U.S. he joined a baseball training facility as an instructor. Later that same year he began coaching coaching at the college level.
