Biographical Information[edit]

"As to fielding . . . second baseman George Magoon stands head and shoulders above the other second basemen." - Sporting Life of October 6, 1900 about George Magoon's play in the minor league American League, soon to become a major league

George "Topsy" Magoon played five seasons in the majors. He was also the second baseman for the 1906 Des Moines Champions, a team that featured an 18-year-old Ed Cicotte.

It was reported in March 1903 that he had played "ice polo" all winter, and the rheumatism that had afflicted him the previous summer was gone.

Magoon was the head coach at University of Maine in 1912-1913.
